Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office arrests suspect linked to Floyd County robbery

Earlier today, law enforcement officers in Cherokee County apprehended a suspect connected to a recent robbery in Floyd County, Georgia. According to the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office, Jeffrey Lemar Smith, 23, of Gadsden, was found hiding in a dumpster off West Main Street near Watson Drive and taken into custody.

The search for Smith involved personnel from the Sheriff’s Office as well as officers from the Centre Police Department, Leesburg Police Department, Cherokee County Rescue, and Cherokee County EMA. The agencies used several drones to assist with the overnight operation.

Smith has been charged with Attempt to Elude. The Floyd County Police Department is leading the investigation into the armed robbery and is expected to file additional charges against Smith.

“Our agency is working diligently with the Floyd County Police Department to apprehend the two remaining suspects and urges the community to remain alert and report anything suspicious by calling 911,” stated the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office.

The search for two other suspects continues as authorities ask residents to stay vigilant and report any unusual activity.
