FOIA Request to Gadsden State Community College Regarding Chinese National Students on May 16, 2025.

As part of our ongoing commitment to transparency and accountability in local governmental affairs, we at Gadsden Today have submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to Gadsden State Community College. Our request seeks detailed information concerning the enrollment and scholarship details of Chinese National students at the institution.

Specifically, we have requested documents or lists that identify all current students who are Chinese Nationals, including their respective departments of study. In cases where student names are protected by privacy laws, we have asked for the total number of such students and a breakdown by department. Additionally, we seek information on scholarships awarded to these students, including the amount and source of each scholarship.

Furthermore, our request includes a call for any policy or procedures the university has in place to monitor students—particularly Chinese Nationals—to safeguard the university’s Intellectual Property and other confidential information.

This inquiry is conducted in collaboration with The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting transparency within governmental agencies through the use of Freedom of Information and Sunshine Laws. As media professionals committed to providing comprehensive news coverage, access to these public records is crucial for us to hold public institutions accountable and ensure transparency for our audience.

We believe this request will shed light on how educational institutions manage international student enrollments and related scholarships while maintaining intellectual property security.
