Gadsden State Community College is hosting Candy with the Cardinals, an event for students, faculty, staff and community members, for the first time since 2019. The free public event will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Oct. 18 on the Wallace Drive Campus Quad.

“We are thrilled to be able to bring Candy with the Cardinals back to our community after having to cancel it the past two years due to the upswing in COVID-19 cases,” said Lynn Patterson, director of Student Activities. “This is a fun, safe event for children, and it’s an opportunity for our community to come back to campus and have a great time in a safe environment.”

Participants are encouraged to wear costumes and participate in a costume contest. The event will once again feature carnival games and activities such as face painting, corn hole, boo bowling and a popcorn stand.

Attendees can meet and take photos with Gadsden State athletes as well as explore Gadsden Fire Department trucks. The Gadsden State Show Band will perform, and members of the Etowah County Sheriff’s Department will also be on-site to pass out candy. Food will be available for purchase.  Information about Gadsden State’s admissions process and programs will also be available at Candy with the Cardinals. The Cardinal Foundation, Gadsden State Alumni Association and other College organizations will participate by providing activities and candy.

“We are going to have a good time while educating our community about what all Gadsden State has to offer,” Patterson said. “We are expecting a good crowd for this year’s event.”

Gadsden State’s Ayers Campus in Anniston is also hosting Candy with the Cardinals from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Oct. 25. The event will include Truck or Treat, games and face painting. A costume contest for Gadsden State students will take place and will include prizes. The event is open to the public but the costume contest requires a Gadsden State student ID.
