GECEMA, Gadsden Fire Department announce new alert system

In a partnership between the Gadsden Fire Department and the Gadsden/Etowah EMA, Gadsden firefighters will soon be notified of emergency calls by a new “fire alerting system.”

This state-of-the-art system, which is custom designed to meet the needs of each station, is the first update of the City of Gadsden’s Fire alerting system in two decades.

The system will use different types of tones to distinguish between different types of calls. It has an automated text-to-speech feature that will communicate dispatched information.

The new alerting system also comes with an app, which will turn a firefighter’s phone into a mobile alert system.

According to Gadsden Fire Chief Wil Reed, “Once operational, the system will shave precious minutes from our response times by pre-alerting our personnel of incoming calls. With the multi-use alerting panels, computerized dispatch, and new tones, the firefighters should have the initial information before dispatchers begin to speak on the radio.”

The new system is expected to become fully operational sometime in October.
