CHEROKEE COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT: Meet the New Principal: Whitney Nolan of Freedom MS!

Webp hs 09

Cherokee County School District issued the following announcement on Aug 21.

Our Principals are dedicated leaders, and we’ve been introducing you to Principals who are new to the role or who are serving at new schools this year.  Please help us celebrate Freedom Middle School’s new leader: Whitney Nolan!

Over her six years as Principal of Hickory Flat Elementary School, Whitney Nolan led an inspiring movement to spread kindness, embrace social and emotional learning and promote unity.

Now she’s bringing that same vision and energy to Freedom Middle School as its new leader.

“I am most excited to be back in the arena with middle school students and all of their flair!” Principal Nolan said.  “Also, I am looking forward to building relationships with the Freedom community and building a culture where students and staff are free to be vulnerable, courageous, and kind.”

Prior to her 2014 appointment to lead Hickory Flat ES, Principal Nolan served for two years as an assistant principal at Woodstock Middle School and seven years as an assistant principal at Dean Rusk Middle School.  She joined CCSD in 2003 as a teacher at Dean Rusk MS and previously worked as an elementary and middle school teacher in Louisiana.

“Whitney is a bright light that shines positivity and hope in every corner of the community,” Superintendent of Schools Dr. Brian V. Hightower said.  “She backs up her incredible spirit and compassion with experience – she knows how to unite and encourage her students, her team of teachers and staff and her entire community to achieve important goals.  We can’t wait to see her successes at Freedom.”

Principal Nolan earned her bachelor’s degree in education, master’s degree in education administration and educational specialist degree in leadership.  Her husband, Roger, is a Creekview High School teacher and award-winning girls basketball coach.

How can parents be more involved? “Parent involvement starts at home.  It is of utmost importance that parents are in tune with the spiritual, physical, intellectual, emotional, and social needs of their students.  Even though middle schoolers may not want parents around the school, we have unique ways of utilizing your strengths and talents -- please reach out to our PTSA or me.”
