The Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., donated $5,000 to Gadsden State Community College to fund a scholarship for a student attending the Valley Street Campus, the area’s only campus with the Historically Black College or University designation.
“We are very appreciative of the generosity of the members of Omega Psi Phi,” said Dr. Kathy Murphy, president of Gadsden State. “I commend their willingness to invest in a deserving student.”
The $5,000 scholarship will be awarded to a minority student who has at least a 2.5 GPA. Other requirements include:
- Letter of recommendation from a Valley Street Campus instructor
- A 250- to 500-word essay written in MLA or APA style on the topic, “The Impact and Role of HBCUs and how the student has benefited from attending the Valley Street Campus.”
- Must be an entering freshman or currently enrolled
- Full-time enrollment is required
- Must be in good standing with the College.
The deadline to submit the essay and letter of recommendation is Aug. 1. Submit requirements to hbcu@gadsdenstate.edu. A committee of faculty and staff members will review documents before contacting the winner.
