September Education Briefs from Gadsden State

Gadsden State Community College is hosting Open House events for the Cheaha Educational Opportunity Center (EOC) Project Sept. 7 at the One Stop Center on the East Broad Campus in Gadsden and Sept. 14 in the Ayers Campus Student Center in Anniston. Both events are scheduled for 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 5 to 7 p.m.  The Cheaha EOC Project is a federal TRIO outreach and student services program designed to identify and provide services for individuals with disadvantaged backgrounds. Gadsden State’s EOC serves four counties, including Calhoun, Cherokee, Cleburne and Etowah.  Students interested in the program are encouraged to email eoc@gadsdenstate.edu for information.  Open House events are free and open to the public. Fall Semester 2022 registration continues at Gadsden State

 

Gadsden, Ala.—Registration for Gadsden State Community College’s fall semester terms continues through Oct. 17.  Classes begin Oct. 14 for the fall mini 2 term.  Visit www.gadsdenstate.edu and click on the link to “ONEACCS” at the top of the page to begin the registration process. Gadsden State closed Sept. 16 for Fall Convocation

 

Gadsden, Ala. — Gadsden State Community College will be closed Sept. 16 to allow faculty and staff to participate in the fall semester convocation and local professional development. All offices, services and departments will resume normal operations at 7:30 a.m. Sept. 19.

 

Gadsden State offers free GED classes in Piedmont

 

Gadsden, Ala. — Gadsden State Community College’s Adult Education Services is offering free GED classes in Piedmont for those without a GED or high school diploma.  Classes meet on Monday and Tuesday each week from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 3 to 6 p.m.  Adult Education Services offers a variety of instructional packages, academic services and community projects.  Those interested may call 256-832-1206 or e-mail abates@gadsdenstate.edu. ACT Prep Courses

 

Gadsden, Ala. – Gadsden State Community College’s Continuing Education Program is offering ACT preparation courses covering four core subjects – English, reading, math and science.  Classes will meet at the Cardinal Tutoring Center located in Allen Hall on the Wallace Drive Campus. The session dates, times and course offerings are as follows:

 

Oct. 1: 8 a.m. to noon – English, reading, math and science

Nov. 29: 5 to 7 p.m. – English and reading

Dec. 1: 5 to 7 p.m. – Math and science

 

Students can register for the session(s) of their choice. Registration cost is $60 each for either Tuesday or Thursday session.  Registration is $99 for both weekday sessions and for the Saturday session which includes four hours of instruction covering the four core subjects. Once a student registers, a confirmation email will be sent containing instructions and items needed for the class. Gadsden State to host student success workshop

 

Gadsden, Ala. – Gadsden State Community College will host a student success workshop on three of its campuses with the goal of assisting students in having a successful academic career. The first session of “Time Management + Study Skills = Academic Success” will be Sept. 13 at the Ayers Campus Learning Resource Center Auditorium. A second session will be Sept. 14 in Allen Hall, Room 126 on the Wallace Drive Campus, and the final session will be Sept. 21 in the library at Gadsden State Cherokee.  All three events are scheduled for 11 a.m.  For more information contact, jhowell@gadsdenstate.edu or call 256-549-8616.  The workshops are hosted by the Advising and Retention Center and Student Success Services.

 

UAB Night at Gadsden State  

 

Gadsden, Ala. – The Gadsden State Community College Advising and Retention Center is partnering with UAB Admissions to host a free event for students interested in transferring to the University of Alabama at Birmingham. The event will be from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Sept. 27 at the One Stop Center located on the East Broad Campus.  It will feature a presentation from the Admissions staff and will provide an opportunity for students to speak with various academic departments. One student could win a $250 UAB Night Scholarship (student must be present to win the scholarship).
