Three businesses registered in cities in Cherokee County during January

There were three businesses that registered in cities within Cherokee County during January, according to the Alabama Secretary of State.

This is 73 percent less than the month before, when 11 businesses were registered.

Cedar Bluff registered the most businesses in Cherokee County.

More than 99 percent of Alabama's businesses are considered small, with more than 47 percent of Alabama's employees working for a small business, according to the U.S. Small Business Administration.

A Civic Economics study found $100 spent at a locally-owned business puts $47 back into the local economy while the total is just $13 for non-local businesses.
